About Me

I’ve been playing guitar for about 25 years. I’ve never been in a band because I wasn’t interested in playing classic rock covers and doing everything by committee. I did get to sit in with Smokin’ Joe Kubek though and that was a musical thrill of a lifetime. I play for my own enjoyment but I do like to jam with friends when the opportunity arises. I dabble in keyboards but have never been able to get my left hand to move independently of the right. But if it has strings on it, I can probably play it. I have a bass, banjo, and mandolin, plus guitars which i keep in a multitude of tunings from E major to A minor, but my favorite is probably open G.

I enjoy listening to and dissecting music. When possible I like to digest an artist’s whole catalog and compare & contrast the elements found in the full body of work. I like to know about the context of the music and what was happening with an artist and in their community, and even the world at the time they made the music. For me, perspective is key to understanding and appreciating the work.
